Sports betting – as the most popular form of gambling in the world – would do wonders for all of their casinos’ and racetracks’ bottom lines, yet unlike many states along the eastern seaboard, these Midwestern governments either lacked the foresight to preempt PASPA’s dissolution with effective legislation of their own, or they simply wish to gauge the method of rollout that “more prepared” states are going to employ before deciding to sell their constituencies on the matter.

Also a possibility is that some of the more conservative Midwestern states are simply against the idea of expanded gambling, at least when it comes to how much risk a politician up for reelection this fall is willing to take. All that said, the consensus is that Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Colorado will attempt to assemble comprehensive sports betting bills for passage sometime in 2019. (Nebraska, of course, remains the biggest unknown.)
